My Goals for 2019

I’m well aware that New Year was… well a while ago. But we can make goals any time of the year right? In fact it’s great practice to make quarterly or even monthly goals, it keeps us motivated and on track to achieve whatever it is we’d like to!

But before I tell you mine, lets chat for a bit. Does anyone else cringe at the phrase “new year, new me”? Fab! Because I do too. It seems there is still pressure to make huge changes to our lifestyle, as soon as January 1st hits. It might be 2019, but I’m still going the be the same sarcastic, slightly weird, hyper Netflix and avocado lover I always have been!

Making any change to your lifestyle does take time and setting personal/work goals should be realistic, otherwise our motivation flops. So here is my advice, make goals any time of the year, but give yourself a realistic time frame to work on them. If your goal is to learn a new skill, practice makes progress and unless you’re a total amazeballs genius, it’s likely you won’t master your new skill the first or second time you try. Did you know it takes a whole month for a new habit to become part of the norm? Yes, that’s at least 30 days of implementing that new habit every single day. So treat every goal in the same way because they’re going to take time.

Anywhoo! Here are my goals for 2019…

01. Find new spaces to work…

As much as I love working in my own little office at home, secretly wearing my onesie all day, it’s very easy to work without taking a proper break. I’ve had my lunch at my desk countless times and there’s been a few occasions where I haven’t actually left the house in three days, I know! I’m lucky that I can take my laptop anywhere, so over the next few months I’d like to explore some new coffee shops, maybe a library or two and by the summer I’ll be making more of an effort to work outside in the sunshine!

02. Update my desk space…

I can find inspiration in many things, but being outdoors is the best for my creative flow, I love it! But unfortunately, at this time of year, the south east of England doesn’t have the best weather, so I’m not able to head out into the countryside as often as I’d like. Plus, I feel the cold like you wouldn’t believe! My friends can back me up on this, it’s a shock when I’m actually warm. I’ve decided over the next few months, I’d like to get a new desk, put up some new shelves, hang some colourful artwork, change the lighting up a little and add some house plants. I’ll definitely be posting once it’s finished, so keep your eyes peeled!

03. Drink more water…

I’m awful at drinking throughout the day, unless I’m lying in the sun and the cocktails are flowing… a girl can dream! I did a mini experiment a few summers ago where I drank 3 litres of water a day and I felt amazing for it! But it was a little excessive, so my aim this time round is 2 litres instead.

04. Eat more plant based meals…

This isn’t to say I’m going vegan, or veggie but over the past few months I’ve become more aware of how much animal agriculture is effecting our planet. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a Nando’s queen but I’d like to experiment more in the kitchen and I love to cook, so really it’s win win! (Yes there is halloumi in the picture below, but how amazing does it look?)

05. Get more active…

I can’t express enough about how important self care is and funnily enough I am the worst at taking my own advice. But in the words of Elle Woods “exercise gives you endorphins, endorphins make you happy. Happy people just don’t shoot their husbands”. So I’m going to make time to do something active everyday, even if it’s a walk in the woods or yoga in my front room.

06. Learn a new skill…

My favourite kind of goal, learning something new! I’d like to learn more about coding for website design so I have a better understanding when talking to my clients. In the future I’d love to offer this as a service, but only when I have more knowledge. I’m also going to practice painting with water colours. I’m so inspired by artists who have this skill and I’m desperate to master it, I best get practicing!

07. Be more visible on social media…

This is a tough one for me, talking in front of a camera feels very abnormal even though I see others doing it every day! But again, it takes time getting used to it. I definitely want to start sharing more of my process and behind the scenes bits and pieces with my followers, I just need to take the plunge!

08. Reduce my plastic use and palm oil intake

Before Christmas I was one of those people who shared the viral Iceland campaign, and if you haven’t seen it already, I strongly suggest you do. The message has really stuck with me, so myself and a few of my friends have made the conscious decision to stop buying products that use palm oil. This is our planet and collectively we need to take better care of it. Which leads me onto plastic, I’ll be making a huge effort to reduce the amount of plastic I use, including take away coffee cups (I know right??), carrier bags and food in plastic packaging. Disclaimer, sometimes it’s not always possible to buy loose fruit and veg, but the point is, I’m really going to try. Let me know if you have any plastic saving tips for 2019, maybe I’ll try and come up with some too.

There you have it, my first set of goals for 2019. Writing them down and sharing them with you is keeping me super motivated to start making a difference! Tell me some of your goals for the next few months or even years, I’d love to hear all about them!

Until next time, Ellen x
